Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne made her debut at the age of seventeen with ‘Let Go’ (2002), one of the finest Canadian albums ever. As casually as can be. The hit singles ‘Complicated’ and ‘Sk8er Boi’ earned her the title of punk princess. Lavigne presented as a rebellious yet vulnerable skater girl entangled in complicated teen romances. She writes her own lyrics, and she’s good at it: the songs she’s written for Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Rihanna bear witness to that. The multi-talented artist moved gradually from pop-punk towards the mainstream. ‘Love Sux’ (2022) was an abrupt about turn. Lavigne was 17 all over again and made what she says is her most alternative album. Titles like ‘Bite Me’, ‘I’m a Mess’ and ‘Love It When You Hate Me’ speak for themselves. As do her guest vocalists: Mark Hoppus (blink-182), Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud.
