Royal Blood is an unashamedly noisy duo from the British seaside town of Brighton. The two met when Mike Kerr returned from travelling through Australia in 2013. Ben Thatcher picked him up at the airport, and on the way back they formed a band. Two days later they were playing live. Royal Blood shares its genes with The Black Keys and The White Stripes. The combination of bass and drums is an interesting one. Kerr’s clever use of amplifiers makes it sounds he’s playing bass and guitar at the same time. Success came early on, and their untitled debut album took them onto the main stages of all the major European festivals. On their latest release, ‘Back to the Water Below‘ (2023), Royal Blood manage to refine and expand their trusted formula at the same time. The tight riffs of the early days remain intact while they’ve become a lot more dynamic.
