PJ Harvey

Polly Jean Harvey has been coming to Werchter since 1995. And she’s looked totally different each time: a B-movie glamour queen, a punkette, Twiggy’s niece, a prissy Victorian with a high collar, and so on. It’s as if she turns into a new person every five years. Her outfit always fits the material, which has evolved over the years from rebellious rock to gothic folk. Her latest album, ‘I Inside the Old Year Dying’ (2023) shows an earthly, spiritual Harvey who builds a new mythology from enchanting songs of the British countryside. The restrained cycle fits closely with the highly-praised ‘Let England Shake’ that she presented in Werchter in 2011. “A beautiful living room concert for 80,000 people,” De Morgen wrote. Harvey was radiant in a white dress by Ann Demeulemeester.
