Bombay Bicycle Club

In the 19th century, the Bombay Bicycle Club was a popular meeting place for British army officers in India. So it’s no surprise that the eponymous band’s music has a melancholic undertone. It consists of four dreamers from North London who create sophisticated pop. One of them, by the way, is the grandson of the author of the classic ‘Dirty Old Town’ (see The Dubliners and The Pogues). The first two Bombay Bicycle Club albums went gold in the United Kingdom. Here they had to wait until 2011’s ‘Shuffle’ (2011), an ingenious number that was showered with airplay everywhere. The band are loved wherever they go. For example, on their latest album ‘My Big Day’ (2023) they are visited by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), funk goddess Chaka Khan and American singer-songwriter Jay Som.
