The Kooks

“Honest songwriting craftsmanship and funkadelic rhythms.” That is how the Kooks were introduced in 2006, at the annual talent festival Eurosonic in Groningen. The group from Brighton never deviated from that approach. They took their name from a song on David Bowie’s fourth album ‘Hunky Dory’ (1971), and find inspiration in the music of Blur, The Kinks and The Police. The band was an instant success - their debut ‘Inside In/Inside Out’ (2006), with singalong favourites like ‘Naïve’ and ‘She Moves in Her Own Way’, camped out in the Belgian Ultratop chart for over a year. In 2006, 2007 and 2008 they performed at Werchter for three editions in a row. The teen idols grew into a fixture in British pop music. Their latest album ‘10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark’ (2022) testifies to their enduring appeal. The only change is that the quartet has become a trio.
