Jason Balla and Emily Kempf from Chicago formed a group in 2015 to explore their new romantic relationship. The name is an acronym of their respective solo projects: Dream Eagles + Heavy Dreams = Dehd. The third member is their best friend Eric McGrady, who had never touched a drum kit up until then. While Balla and Kempf’s relationship didn’t survive, their musical project is going stronger than ever. No surprises there; Dehd’s dreamy indie rock is unique and original. In it, you can hear hints of Cocteau Twins, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton and Slowdive all at the same time. According to the pre-eminent webzine Pitchfork, they “scrape away 90 percent of what goes into a guitar album and come away with something effortless and uncomplicated”. They’re bringing their fifth and latest album ‘Poetry’ (2024) with them.
