In early 2024, SPRINTS was the very first name to have its promising future extolled by the experts. The Irish punk band formed five years ago in Dublin. However, three of the four members have played together since childhood. Frontwoman Karla Chubb defined the outlines. She cites PJ Harvey, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Patti Smith as the main influences. Her lyrics are always based on true stories. Their starting shot, ‘Letter to Self’ (2024) is a record that feels as if it had to be made. It’s also a good fit with recent work by compatriots like Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital. Their best review goes as follows: “It’s like sneaking into the bedroom of a total stranger and reading his/her intimate diaries”.
