Skindred

Dub War were a pioneering band during the 1990s. The Welsh group created a crossover between rock, hip-hop, heavy metal and reggae. This was a new concept at the time. Following their split, vocalist Benji Webbe put together a new band continuing in the same direction called Skindred. The quartet dubbed their sound ‘ragga metal’. Over time, they garnered respect, which was honoured in 2021 with a worldwide deal with the British label Earache Records. It paid off. ‘Smile’ (2023) got to number 2 on the UK chart, the highest position in their twenty-year career. Congratulations came in from Metallica and Rage Against The Machine. Skindred made the cover of the rock magazine Kerrang! and won the award for Best Alternative Music Act at the 2024 MOBO Awards. This event celebrates Music Of Black Origin in the United Kingdom.
