Psychonaut

A psychonaut is a mental traveller who explores the depths of their own mind. The eponymous Mechelen-based metal band found the term a fitting framework for their musical project. ‘We share a strong philosophical, religious and spiritual connection. As long as we’ve known each other, we’ve had long discussions about the nature of life and the purpose of existence’. Psychonaut blend classic touchstones like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd with more contemporary references such as Tool and Amenra. Just before the pandemic, the trio were signed by German label Pelagic Records. The track “The Fall of Consciousness” from their debut album Unfold the God Man entered Studio Brussel’s “De Zwaarste Lijst” in 2020 as the highest new entry and has since become a Top 10 regular. Bassist Thomas Michiels also happens to be the presenter of the annual music list.
