NewDad

NewDad hails from Galway, but relocated to London following the success of their EP Banshee (2022). Two years later, the band unveiled Madra – Irish for “dog” – a debut album that gives voice to the many uncertainties brought on by that move. Above all, NewDad is a safe space for singer, guitarist and songwriter Julie Dawson: there she can give voice to the things she struggles to put into words in everyday life. Musically, the trio situate themselves in the tradition of dreamy indie and shoegaze pioneered by The Cure and Slowdive. Things are moving fast. Just over a year after Madra, Altar (2025) was already released, with most of its songs co-written by Justin Parker, known for co-writing “Video Games” by Lana Del Rey and “Laura” by Bat for Lashes. Its central question: how do you keep chasing your ambitions when homesickness pulls so hard in the opposite direction?
