Froukje

Froukje Veenstra makes catchy, export-quality Dutch-language pop. The Rotterdam songwriter was just eighteen when she had her domestic breakthrough with ‘Groter Dan Ik’ (2020). The song combines the lightness of the dance floor with the gravity of the climate crisis. It was like having the world news read out to you while losing yourself in a club. This unusual blend of fun and melancholy became a trademark of her further work. Froukje won an Edison – a Dutch MIA – for her first two albums and ‘Ik Wil Dansen’ and ‘Zonder Gezicht’ (a duet with S10) were both declared Song of the Year. In Belgium, she’s had no trouble selling out AB (Brussels) and De Roma (Antwerp). Humo on her concert at Pukkelpop last year: “Froukje was the fresh beginning of Something New, a promise for the future”.
