Froukje

Froukje Veenstra creates Dutch-language dance tunes  with depth, and a nod to Eefje de Visser and Stromae. The songstress from Rotterdam is phenomenal. She broke through in the Netherlands at the age of eighteen with ‘Groter Dan Ik’ (2020, a song which joined the lightness of a nightclub to the gravity of the climate crisis. The combination of joy and sorrow also characterised her other work, and made her the voice of a generation. With ‘Ik Wil Dansen’, ‘Zonder Gezicht’ (a duet with S10) and ‘Als Ik God Was’ she won the 3voor12 Song of the Year three times in a row. She made it onto the main stages of Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter before she had even released her first album. She experienced some setbacks, but she dealt with them smartly on ‘Noodzakelijk Verdriet’, an hour of perfect synthpop adrift on oceans of love and sadness.
