Agnes Obel

Agnes Obel is a Danish pianist and singer-songwriter who was discovered in a bar in Hamburg by the boss of a Belgian record company. It couldn't be more European. She couples a classical love for composers such as Claude Debussy and Erik Satie with a fascination for PJ Harvey and Joni Mitchell. The result is pure art. The intimist chamber pop of her debut album Philharmonics (2010), made without any outside help, found more than half a million takers. Obel has gradually enriched that austere primer with vocal experiments and synthesisers. Myopia (2020) was followed by long silences on record and on stage. In September 2025, she convincingly stepped out of the shadows with art pop coloured by an accompanying trio (cello + percussion + synths) that excels in musical wizardry.
