Paul Kalkbrenner
Paul Kalkbrenner is the one to go to for the best techno. The German has a career as a DJ, producer and icon spanning over 25 years. In 1999, he co-founded BPitch Control, the trendsetting dance label from Berlin. His breakthrough came with Berlin Calling (2008), a tragicomic film about the life of a techno DJ. The director got the idea from Self (2004), Kalkbrenner's third album, which was conceived as the soundtrack to a non-existent film. Paul was given the lead role and delivered the international hit 'Sky and Sand'. His other evergreens are 'Feed Your Head' (2016) and 'Parachute' (2020). Stromae joins him on his latest album, THE ESSENCE (2025), which also features an ode to Depeche Mode. Fun fact: SV Sparta Lichtenberg's stadium in Berlin has recently been named Paul Kalkbrenner Sportfeld. This is the football club Kalkbrenner played for as a child.
