Festivalpark Werchter Belgium

David Byrne

David Byrne is the artistic Nestor and godfather of Rock Werchter. Only Herman Schueremans has been involved for longer. Byrne was there back in 1978 - that's 47 editions ago - with Talking Heads. When the festival was still held in a tent. The New Yorker with Scottish roots has consistently generated excitement. The last time he was there, in 2018, even merited an exclamation mark in the Golden Book. Byrne set The Barn on fire with a magnificent play for/with a 12-piece band. It clearly provided the inspiration for the new Who Is the Sky? (2025), on which he collaborates with the Ghost Train Orchestra, a New York-based ensemble that performs jazz and classical music. Live, Byrne is travelling the world again in the company of dancers and musicians. A new celebration for those who were there back in 2018, a second chance for those who were not.
