Matt Maltese

Just about every artist has a song that stands out far above the rest of his/her work. In the case of Matt Maltese, it’s ‘As the World Caves In’ from his debut ‘Bad Contestant’ (2018). On Spotify alone, it has been played more than 350 million times. Maybe because it’s like a hot bath with the melancholy sounds of yesteryear. The young Londoner of Canadian extraction idolises Leonard Cohen and Françoise Hardy and, in terms of atmosphere, is reminiscent of Richard Hawley and Arctic Monkeys op on their last album ‘The Car’ (2022). He combines this melancholy with cynicism. Maltese will present ‘Songs That Aren’t Mine’ (2024); his fourth album.
