The Barn

Wilco, a native-to-Chicago sextet, is one of the most adventurous musical phenomena of the last 25 years. The band makes a high-grade concoction of bluegrass, blues, folk and roots rock, which is usually labelled Americana or alt-country. There have been no big hits as of yet, but this is outweighed by the long, unbroken string of top albums and a crowd of devotees. A Wilco concert is a celebration, where fans sing out pages of lyrics at the tops of their voices. Every number lifts the set to new heights. Fun comes first, despite the edge in the songs. As front man Jeff Tweedy puts it: ‘A positive outlook is the motor for social change.’
