Vol for volume, beat for rhythm. The magic word Volbeat conjures up a fresh Scandinavian superpower in the world of Metallica and Motörhead. These Danes patrol an interesting territory. They're regulars on Studio Brussel's De Zwaarste Lijst and De Afrekening. Why? Because the four of them think big. While metal is where they're at, they also add sprinkles of Hank Williams’ country and Dusty Springfield’s soul. They don’t look particularly ‘metal’ either, more like contemporary versions of the characters in ‘Peaky Blinders’, a Netflix series on Britain's gangland Birmingham. In fact, the single ‘Cheapside Sloggers’ (2019) paid homage to the series. Ticket sales were off the charts for their last Belgian concert, so much so that it had to be moved from the Lotto Arena to the much larger Sportpaleis. Werchter's going to get hot again.
