‘Band of Gypsys’ by Jimi Hendrix, bluesman Muddy Waters, Metallica’s first four and the entire Motown catalogue. That’s the musical diet that the three members of The Record Company grew up on. The roots of American rock culture are their main source of nutrition, with the blues of John Lee Hooker and the proto-punk of The Stooges as the main flavourings. Their first release ‘Give It Back to You’ (2016) was immediately nominated in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category at the Grammy Awards. They then toured with the likes of My Morning Jacket, Nathaniel Rateliff and Bob Seger. In the run-up to their latest album, ‘Play Loud’ (2021), they surprised us all with an EP on which they covered ‘I Wanna Get High’ by Cypress Hill and ‘Devil Inside’ by INXS.
