The Good, The Bad & The Queen

Damon Albarn is an innovator. He keeps his talent fresh by spreading it over various projects. Many have already appeared at Werchter: Blur, Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad & The Queen. In the latter supergroup, Albarn joins forces with the human metronome of afrobeat (drummer Tony Allen), the ultimate punk bassist (Paul Simonon of The Clash) and the guitarist on ‘Bitter sweet symphony’ (Simon Tong of The Verve). Their eponymous debut of 2007 was a morality tale of the London of the 21st century. Sultry dub rock that unequivocally answered the question of whether pop music can still be relevant today. Ten years later we have a logical follow-up. ‘Merrie land’ (2018) = Brexit. ‘Extraordinary 21st century folk about an extraordinary 21st century people,’ said the British magazine, Clash.
