The next great Belgians. Portland reached the finale of Humo’s Rock Rally 2016 - the year of Whispering Sons - and last year they were a laureate of Studio Brussel's De Nieuwe Lichting. Two radio hits, ‘Pouring rain’ and ‘Lucky clover,’ confirmed their status and highlighted the band's strengths: the beautiful vocal harmonies of Jente Pironet and Sarah Pepels which are enveloped in the sound of an acoustic guitar and an array of electronics. Strong covers of extremely difficult classics such as ‘Matilda’ (alt-J) and ‘Dreams’ (Fleetwood Mac) indicate how high the band has set the bar for itself. They will release their first LP after the summer. Fun fact: the name Portland is an ode to the late Elliott Smith, a singer-songwriter who lived in this American city for a long time.
