Phoebe Bridgers is the darling of the American indie scene. She is part of the girl band boygenius and one half of Better Oblivion Community Center, alongside musical godfather Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk). In other words, the path to success spread out before her. She first made her mark with ‘Strangers in the Alps’ in 2017, and did so impressively. But it was ‘Punisher’ that really shook things up. Before it was even released, BBC Radio 6 Music declared it to be one of the best albums of 2020. A shrewd guess. ‘Punisher’ is a forthright album about the complexities of learning to enjoy life. Strongly recommended for those addicted to Courtney Barnett, Big Thief and The National.
