Maribou State is the musical equivalent of a nice dream. Chris Davids and Liam Ivory have managed to strike just the right balance between organic and synthetic, largely thanks to their past. Originally, they played the bass and the guitar in a rock band. In college, they turned to electronic music and were influenced by soul and hip-hop. The result was ‘Portraits’ (2015), the debut of Maribou State. They carefully layer the bass, drums, guitar and percussion over the samples and the intoxicating beats. The addictive voice of Holly Walker only enhanced the live experience. Maribou State has since ventured out into the world on ‘Kingdoms in colour’ (2018), going sound hunting in Beijing, Delhi, Lisbon and Sydney. They will be joined by the amazing Khruangbin.
