Marie-Pierra Kakoma seemed to come out of nowhere in 2019. She then proceeded to write one of the most beautiful national and international stories as Lous and The Yakuza. Lous is a reversal of ‘soul’; Yakuza is the name of Japanese organised crime. She borrowed it to describe her posse, which includes the Spanish producer El Guincho, known for his work with Björk and Rosalía. Together they made ‘Gore’, the strongest Belgian debut of 2020. The blend of trap and chanson made her the first Belgian to appear on Jimmy Fallon (NBC). There was no stopping her now: an interview in The New York Times, the face of Louis Vuitton and a spot in the 30 Under 30 Europe in the annual talent list of economics magazine Forbes. She also organised the Black Lives Matter march in Brussels in 2020.
