An artist with an opinion. King Princess is labelled ‘a queer pop star for a new generation’ and ‘a gay icon in waiting’. Despite still being very young - just 20 - the New York native is more than up to the task. She was born Mikaela Strauss. Her father owns his own studio and has worked with the Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons and The National. Mikaela received an amazing musical upbringing. She plays several instruments, knows all about recording equipment and understands the ins and outs of the music industry. At age 11 she turned down Virgin Records. Many years later she chose Zelig Records, the label of the successful British producer Mark Ronson. She exploded on the scene with her debut single, ‘1950’ (2018). The song garnered more than 200 million streams after just one year. Long live the princess! And the king.
