Kacey Musgraves is the new grande dame of country. Her humorous nature and progressive ideas around LGBTQ+ and recreational drug use are a breath of fresh air. This may be why the Texan has taken the genre to a broader audience in the United States. The successful ‘Golden Hour’ (2018) won both Best Country Album and Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Only the second album ever to do so. On ‘Star-Crossed’ (2021) she found a perfect balance between two poles. Musgraves presented the storytelling power of country together with the grandeur of the best pop. The alternative music site Pitchfork is also a fan. That’s not all that strange, on reflection. The beautiful melodies and slightly psychedelic sound enchant in the same way as the best of Beck or Sufjan Stevens.
