A professional sad boy. That’s how JC Stewart’s sister describes him. The singer-songwriter from Belfast in Northern Ireland is good at distilling and refining everyday occurrences. ‘Most of my songs start off as conversations. The difficult thing is to expand them while keeping them personal.’ He seems to have managed perfectly well on ‘Have You Had Enough Wine?’ (2019), a report of a conversation with his former girlfriend. His greatest achievement so far is ‘Hollywood’, a song he wrote with and for Lewis Capaldi. Collaborations are his speciality. He’s also written with Tom Odell and Niall Horan (One Direction). The somewhat serious Stewart does mess around from time to time. For example, in 2020 he was on all the American TV channels with his TikTok parody of the theme from the TV show ‘Friends’.
