Electro-pop from Glasgow. In 2013 CHVRCHES was given an amazing welcome, described by the BBC as ‘electro-pop knocked into beautiful shape’. At the SXSW talent festival in Austin, Texas they won the best non-American newcomer award. The trio were ready for the big time! Vocalist Lauren Mayberry worked as a journalist and learnt her trade in a couple of local groups. Iain Cook and Martin Doherty were respectively members of Aerogramme and The Twilight Sad, significant names for post-rock fans. CHVRCHES is a completely different kettle of fish. Contemporary comparisons can be made with The Knife and Robyn. Historically, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics and New Order were major influences. For their new album ‘Love Is Dead’ (2018) they collaborated with Greg Kustin, the man who produced Adele’s ‘25’. According to Mayberry it’s ‘the most pop stuff we’ve done’.
