A singing angel from Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. Aurora Aksnes – who goes by the artist name AURORA – produces the kind of electropop songs that are so typical of Scandinavia. While they warm the soul, they also have a dark side to them. She prefers to call her style ‘Dark folk pop’. Aksnes grew up with the music of Bob Dylan and Enya as well as Tolkien’s books. Her favourite song is ‘Suzanne’ by Leonard Cohen. She started to write her own songs while still quite young, and at her mum’s insistence she started to perform them live. Her mum felt her songs might help other people. When Katy Perry first heard one of her songs, she tweeted: “Finally. New music that makes my heart flutter”. AURORA’s debut album ‘All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend’ (2016) made an impression worldwide. In her new tracks, AURORA also focuses on politics and gender issues.
