In the beginning there was Sick Shit. Straight out of New Jersey and purveyors of power violence, an extremely dissonant and fast offspring of hardcore. When the bassist departed in 2018, the survivors set up GEL. It started as a temporary side project with the intention of bringing more traditional hardcore. But it turned out to be a keeper. The debut 'Only constant' (2023) became an instant classic. Ten songs that last an average of one and a half minutes - that adds up to fifteen minutes - and that are considered by experts to be among the best hardcore songs of the year. There are comparisons with Slayer and Turnstile and there’s applause for the positivity in the lyrics of frontwoman Sami Kaiser. No bravado with her but deeply felt stories about personal growth and self-awareness. "Hardcore for the freaks" they call it themselves.
