Selah Sue

Selah Sue

THURSDAY - THE BARN

Selah Sue is the second Belgian artist ever to be launched internationally abroad. Wallace Collection, the makers of ‘Daydream’, were the first, but that is already half a century ago. Paris is Sanne Putseys’ starting point. She has a record deal with Because Music (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Justice, Manu Chao) which introduced her to Europe in 2011. And the response is enthusiastic. In the first week ‘Selah Sue’ entered the charts at # 1 in Belgium, at # 2 in the Netherlands and at # 3 in France. At the end of 2011 she had already sold over 400,000 copies. The album is the result of a patient preparation. Selah Sue only started recording after she had been the supporting act of Prince, after she had sung a duet with Moby on French television and after she had sold out three nights at Ancienne Belgique. ‘Selah Sue’ is her blueprint. She writes as a singer-songwriter. She sings like a ragga-hip hop-nu-soul-dubstep-diva. A dark diamond in a white shell. American celebrity watcher Perez Hilton formulated it as follows: “She hails from Belgium but she makes soul music with a tinge of reggae. Her name is Selah Sue and she’s fucking amazing.” In December 2011 it was announced that she had signed a record deal at the other side of the ocean with Columbia Records.
