Mastodon

Mastodon

FRIDAY - MAIN STAGE

Metal is living matter. Garages and rehearsal rooms are the scenes of loads of experiments, which can result in Mastodon, four American studs from Atlanta combining metal and hardcore. Ever since the start in 2000 the band have not stopped travelling. Tours with Slayer, Slipknot and Tool earned them the honorary title ‘the future of metal’. ‘Blood Mountain’ is considered as one of the best albums of 2006, also by the outside world. The following one, ‘Crack The Skye’ (2009), was a concept album featuring both Russian czars and scientist Stephen Hawking. Equally striking is the presence of top producer Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen). The son of Springsteen’s drummer is an enormous Mastodon fan. That explains it. Another admirer: Mauro Pawlowski. On ‘The Hunter’ (2011) Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Maroon 5, Alanis Morissette) surprisingly takes charge. He provided space and clarity. The time seems ripe for world fame. Their third visit to Rock Werchter.
