Katy B

The BRIT School in London is a great breeding ground of talent.  A few names from the last ten years: Adele, Jamie Woon, The Kooks and Amy Winehouse. Our Jasper Erkens is there too. Kathleen Brien went on to study Popular Music at a London university. She is now Katy B, a London girl with an LA kind of soul. She has elements of gospel and soul in her voice. Names like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott have shown her the way, and she translates these influences for the modern era; initially as a guest vocalist for dubstep giant Magnetic Man, then by herself with pop music that makes use of modern resources like dub, electro, ragga, rave and urban. With lyrics that are pointed and very accurate. “Maybe the new Mike Skinner (The Streets) is a woman,” wrote Humo. A revelation.
