James Vincent McMorrow
SATURDAY - PYRAMID MARQUEE
At first he was a drummer listening to hardcore and hip hop. And then he fell for the music from the fifties. Subsequently he heard the soul song ‘I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know’ by American Donny Hathaway and decided to become a singer. After which he turned to the banjo, the guitar and the piano to accompany himself. Irishman James Vincent McMorrow got in touch with the singer-songwriter within himself via a very long detour. And he discovered that being Irish provided him with loads of tradition to draw from. McMorrow partly is Bon Iver and Ray LaMontagne, but he also is completely different. He recorded his debut ‘Early In The Morning’ (2010) by himself in a house in the coastal town of Drogheda. Not as a gimmick, but because he simply did not have the money for a studio. While recording he mainly listened to Sufjan Stevens. McMorrow put together an accompanying band of five and quickly gathered a loyal fan base. A super tip.
