Elbow
THURSDAY - MAIN STAGE
Elbow is just about every music lover's favourite. If there was a prize for the “Nicest Band” Elbow would walk away with it. In Guy Garvey they have one of the most amiable front men that ever climbed onto a stage. The five-piece from Manchester is captivating, intelligent and game. And that's pretty much the way most of us see it. Elbow has gone down a storm in these parts. It started 'for real' when they warmed up for dEUS at Vorst Nationaal in 2006. That summer they gave a memorable performance in the Pyramid Marquee. After that concert Elbow and the audience eyed each other up as if to say ‘What happened here in Werchter this afternoon?’. Well, the Belgians had taken to their hearts a band that after 15 years of persistence had finally hit on the right mix of great atmosphere, full sound and strong lyrics. The fourth album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ (2008) was the icebreaker. It scooped a prestigious Mercury Music Prize in Great Britain and sold more than 1 million copies. Since then, Elbow has passed through Werchter on 2 other memorable occasions. They sold out the Vorst Nationaal and Lotto Arena with ease at the back end of 2011. Out in Belgium since a few weeks: a special edition of the album ‘Build A Rocket Boys!’, including an EP of live recordings from previous appearances in Brussels en Antwerp. All together now: more, more, more!
