dEUS

dEUS

FRIDAY - MAIN STAGE

The best thing to happen to Belgian music in the 20th and 21st centuries. dEUS (named after a song by Iceland’s Sugarcubes) is a crucial band. Not only because of what they have achieved themselves but also the belief they have spread. dEUS was the first Belgian rock band to sign a contract with a major British record label (Island), the first to appear regularly on MTV and the first to appear at major international festivals (Reading, Lowlands). They changed how the rest of the world sees Belgium. Following the third album, ‘The Ideal Crash’ (1999), dEUS seemed to be gasping for air. Frontman Tom Barman made a good film (‘Anyway The Wind Blows’) and rearranged the group. This gave them a new and greater lease of life. It is now exactly twenty years since their final place in Humo’s Rock Rally 1992. The moment it really all began. Let a thousand corks pop.
