You can hear Iceland in the music of Björk and Sigur Rós. You can hear deserts and cacti in the music of the Icelandic group Kaleo. The foursome absolutely had to go to the United States – and they did. In 2015 Kaleo signed to the American label Atlantic Records and moved from the small village of Mosfellsbær to Austin, the capital of Texas, where for four months a year the temperature is over 32 degrees. You can feel the scorching heat penetrate Way Down We Go, the single with which the group made an international breakthrough in 2016. It reached the top of America’s alternative hit list. Kaleo went completely ‘way down’ in the accompanying video, recorded in the crater of the Thrihnukagigur, a sleeping volcano in the vicinity of Reykjavik. Promising: in January the group sold out the AB on their first visit to Belgium.
