Two singles were enough to raise the British singer Dua Lipa to pop diva status. She's in her early twenties, has Kosovo and Albanian roots, and has all the assets needed to fulfil that role. She’s beautiful, sings like a nightingale and was born for the stage. Genetics also play a role. Father Dukagjin Lipa is a rock singer. Dua started out in the slipstream of Christina Aguilera and Nelly Furtado but now she's closer to Sia and Jessie Ware. Her second single, ‘Be The One’ (2015), was an international hit and shot to #1 in Belgium. The BBC included Lipa - Albanian for ‘I love you’ – in the Sound of 2016. Shortly afterwards she thanked them for their confidence with the smash hit ‘Hotter than Hell’. After two years, her untitled debut album is finally ready. It is strongly influenced by hip-hop, or ‘dark pop’ as she calls it. The Queen of Dark Pop - that sounds good.
